Bob 1 was actually the first member of DEVO to produce a recording for another artist. His first outing was producing a session for old friends of his in a Cincinnati-based group called Qi-ZZ in 1980. The group produced two singles, featuring three songs produced by Bob.

Back in California, in 1982, he produced an EP for another friend of his, Billy Sheets. The EP credits drums on side 2 to “Alan Lyle”, who has been confirmed to be Alan Myers (though Bob does not play guitar credited as “Kent State”, as has been occasionally assumed).
